When you computer starts up, it takes time for all the programs that will need to run to load. Each program will then run with a certain amount of energy. As you probably already know, this doesn’t actually use all that much energy. After that, the hard drive is then used to find the files that you need to run. Of course, it doesn’t actually access each file, but rather the essence of that specific file. So, the next time you turn on your computer, it now takes longer to find the files – and therefore your computer is slow!

To fix this, you need to defragment your hard drive once in a while. If you have not defragmented your drive in months, do so at least once a month. There are several different programs you can use, but the most well-known and used are defragmenter and scandisk.

It is also important to keep your registry clean so that it doesn’t keep adding things to your computer’s registry. The registry is a central database for your computer. Once you are done with it, you will be able to increase the speed of your computer.

Every time you install or uninstall a program, there can be changes to the registry. If you are not careful, you (or your software) can end up with a registry full of errors and corrupted files that cannot be repaired.
